Jessica Gienow-Hecht and Steffen Just present a workshop report "Audiovisual Performances of the Liberal Script” (pre-circulated text by 28/6, to obtain a copy write to steffen.just@hu-berlin.de). Johannes Gerschewski is going to discuss the text/lecture.
This project focuses on the audiovisual performance of the liberal script and its contestation on a global stage since the end of World War Two. It is designed to test a question and a project idea that reaches across the SCRIPTS spectrum and supports its collaboration with the Humboldt HUB. Specifically, the project asks:
To what an extent is there an “aestheticism of the liberal script” reflected in the arts? How, why, where and by whom are these manifestations challenged?
To this end, the project zooms in on one particular nonverbal art form — music — and one particular facet of the liberal script — self-determination and human rights. It seeks to identify ways, means, avenues and actors defining and challenging these tenets and their experience by nonverbal means and on the emotional level. The workshop will present a summary of preliminary findings and, also, discuss the project’s nexus with the Humboldt HUB.
