This short-term project seeks to provide a systematic study of the macro level mediators of population support or opposition of the liberal script, with a focus on “science populism.” Specifically, it investigates whether, and the extent to which, differential exposure to transnational settings and exposure to external shocks mediate the hypothesized and documented causes of individuals’ anti-science attitudes.

Through analyses of large-scale representative surveys and online survey experiments, the project aims to capture cross-national and cross-regional patterns, as well as causal mechanisms underlying science populism at the micro-level.
