Regional Conferences on Contestations of the Liberal Script With the Cluster’s International Partners
In the context of the Cluster’s internationalization strategy and in cooperation with the Cluster’s 21 international partners, SCRIPTS has the ambition to “bring the cluster to the world” in the different regions in the world. In this context, we realise the format of “regional conferences” to address specific contestations of the liberal script in their various dimensions, as reflected in the Cluster’s Research Units. Through hosting a series of conferences in the different regions, we seek to extend the Cluster’s research agenda and discussions to other parts of the world and bring in expertise to our internal debates.
Restricted accessibility: The conferences are open to invitees only.

Regional Conferences Asia
Regional Conference "Liberal Script(s) – Asian Versions and Contestations of a Concept" – 21-23 Feb 2022
In cooperation with the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA), online
The second regional conference of SCRIPTS, led by Michael Zürn and the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA) President Amrita Narlikar, dealt with the manifold versions of “Asian scripts”. Panel discussions addressed human rights, security, finance, and trade. The conference’s main conclusions were that Asian politics and local traditions are shaped by scripts that are not identical with the liberal order. Indeed, these scripts can contest the liberal script if they constitute a real alternative. A follow-up in April 2022 on the Indo-Pacific with foreign policy actors is open to everyone interested (see below).
Follow-Up Regional Conference – end of 2022 (planned)
In cooperation with the German Institute for Global and Area Studies (GIGA)
A second “Asian Scripts”-conference is envisioned to take place later in 2022, details will be announced. This is open to invitees only.
