The professorship Global Sociology at the WZB Social Science Center and Freie Universität Berlin focuses on global structures, processes, and changes, their causes, and outcomes. The aim of the professorship is to transcend methodological nationalism in sociological studies in order to better understand the viability of the liberal script by bringing in a world societal perspective and inves­tigating the role of cultural frameworks and norms in world society. Central themes include transnational social processes, including migrations in the global South, the creation and diffusion of transnational cultural models and standards, and the mobilization of such models by global and national actors in the fields of education, science and knowledge economy, and citizenship.
