Discussion

Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the current geopolitical changes have led to a new EU enlargement dynamics. The process of EU enlargement is caught between geopolitics, reform requirements and absorption capacity. At the beginning of the new institutional cycle at EU level, which began with the European elections in June, the focus is on the question of the future direction and concrete implementation of EU enlargement policy.

The following topics and questions will be discussed:

  • What are the current challenges of EU enlargement policy and what is at stake?
  • The perspectives of the representatives of the EU candidate countries on the implementation of reforms and gradual EU integration.
  • What is the EU’s strategy for the future shape of its enlargement policy and for its absorption capacity?

The conference will be held in a hybrid format and also streamed as a Zoom webinar, allowing participants to follow the discussions online. The event will be simultaneously translated into German and English. After registering, you will receive a confirmation of your invitation along with the Zoom access link in good time before the event.
