Talk & Discussion | "Meet the Scientist" with SCRIPTS researchers at Mall Anders
Researchers from Berlin Clusters of Excellence present their research and answer questions at the Mall Anders (in German). Thea Céline Kirsch will speak about digital border regimes.
What does the work of scientists consist of? At the casual "Meet the Scientist" event, you will have the opportunity to meet scientists from the excellence clusters of the Berlin University Alliance and learn more about their exciting and diverse fields of research. Join in, ask your questions, and discuss with us!

Speakers
Thea Céline Kirsch is a doctoral researcher at the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies (BGTS) since 2021. Thea holds an M.A. from Freie Universität Berlin in political science and conducts research on borders, surveillance and the digitalisation of border regimes.
Thea will speak from 5:00-5:30 pm (CEST).
Dominic Eger Domingos is a research assistant at the Cluster of Excellence "Matters of Activity" in the projects "Filtering" and "Cutting". After training as a carpenter, Dominic Eger Domingos studied product design at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin. During his studies, he initially focused on the design approach of hand-held cutting tools and interaction. Since his Master's degree, his focus has been on digital cutting. He explores concepts of digital materiality and physical interaction with haptic feedback for interaction with surgical robots. Domingos' work contributes to an interdisciplinary understanding of complex interaction challenges, creates scenarios for the implementation of concepts and promotes new ways to develop collaborative robotic tools.
Dr. Nadia Elghobashi-Meinhardt studied chemistry at Stanford University. She completed her doctorate in theoretical chemistry at the Free University of Berlin in 2005. Since then, Dr. Elghobashi-Meinhardt has been conducting research in theoretical biophysics. She is currently a research assistant at the Institute of Chemistry at the TU Berlin.
Felix Günther is a research associate in the field of "Discrete Differential Geometry" at the Technical University of Berlin. He has always remained true to Berlin in his academic life: He completed his Abitur, studies and doctorate here. After stays abroad in England, France, Austria and Switzerland, he returned to Berlin four years ago. In his research, he has developed, among other things, a theory of surfaces that are composed of flat parts but behave like curved ones - a theory with beautiful applications in architecture! In addition to his research activities in the Cluster of Excellence MATH+, he is involved in science communication and talent promotion.
Nina Smeenk began studying mathematics at the TU Berlin in 2014. During her studies, she worked as a student assistant in the Collaborative Research Centre "Discretisation in Geometry and Dynamics" in a project on the geometric 3D visualisation of mathematical theories until she successfully completed her Master's degree in November 2020. Within the same framework, she continued this work as a research assistant with the aim of obtaining her doctorate in 2024.
About the Mall Anders
The temporary learning lab Mall Anders (located in the shopping mall Wilma Shoppen in Berlin-Charlottenburg) was initiated by the universities of Berlin and is funded by the Berlin University Alliance until the end of June 2022. The learning lab in the style of a pop-up store leaves the spatial context of universities to intertwine with Berlin's urban and civil society innovatively and experimentally. So far, this new meeting place has offered students and local actors the opportunity to think about pressing issues of our future, to discuss proposed solutions, and sometimes to test them directly on a small scale. Since December 2021, a wide range of events on various topics has been taking place there. The Mall Anders has a model character for further projects of knowledge exchange as well as the visibility of the Clusters of Excellence of the Berlin University Alliance and its topics in unusual places.

SCRIPTS at Mall Anders
SCRIPTS wants to achieve a knowledge exchange between scientists, civil society, and citizens in the neighbourhood by cooperating with the Mall Anders. As interactive and comprehensible as possible, academics and non-academics alike shall have the opportunity to discuss liberal orders at eye level and to examine its contestations, potentials, and problems. Whether in cooperation with the other Clusters of Excellence of the Berlin University Alliance or on our own, at Mall Anders the cluster wants to bring the topics and research of SCRIPTS to the public and discuss them with an audience as broad as possible. Since SCRIPTS is about social science, it is aiming to interact with civil society in new and experimental ways, discussing and working on broad social challenges with them. In the Mall Anders, the cluster does not simply want to hold lectures or panel discussions but to achieve an exchange of knowledge of the big social issues examined by SCRIPTS by interacting with local actors; for instance, in Science Slams, Meet the Scientist, workshops, and interactive exhibitions.
About the visit
Events in the Mall Anders are open to all. There is no registration needed. Current pandemic regulations are followed (currently there are none).
Accessibility: Barrier-free access, the Mall Anders is on the ground floor, there is a guide system for the blind. There is also a multi-storey car park belonging to Wilma Shoppen. In the immediate vicinity are the Charlottenburg train station (RE, S-Bahn), the Wilmersdorfer Straße underground station and the Bismarckstraße underground station.
