On September 28-29, 2023, Luca Tomini (Université Libre de Bruxelles, ULB) and Johannes Gerschewski (SCRIPTS) are organizing an international conference on "Resisting the autocratic turn.”
The international conference under the title "Resisting the autocratic turn: Can (and should) autocratization be prevented, stopped, and resisted?" takes place in the Centre d'Etude de la Vie Politique (CEVIPOL) in Brussels, 28.-29.09.2023. The conference will deal with the ways how (liberal) democracies could and should prevent autocratization from happening, what strategies by which actors have been successful and what failed. The conference tries to collect what we know in the field about resistance to autocratization. It invites scholars from political theory, comparative politics, international relations, and area studies. It focuses both on conceptual and empirical work, bringing together quantitative and qualitative approaches.
