Agnes Blome is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at SCRIPTS and Lecturer at the Otto-Suhr-Institute of Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin. She works at the intersection of Comparative Political Economy, Gender, and Political Sociology. She is particularly interested in the role of political institutions for parliamentary group representation, the politics of (contested) care and the political conditions of unequal social policy responsiveness. Before joining SCRIPTS, she was OSI Guest Professor for Comparative Politics and senior research fellow at the WZB Berlin Social Science Research Center. She also was a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Current Research Projects at SCRIPTS

At SCRIPTS, Agnes works on a project that theoretically and empirically analyzes the underrepresentation of different social groups (e.g. women, ethnic minorities, age groups, class background) in national parliaments. Assuming underrepresentation to be a potential factor for increasing polarization and contestation in the European Parliament, she aims at understanding the extent of underrepresentation and differences in political answers such as electoral system reforms and deliberative processes. In a related project Agnes explores the degree of unequal social policy responsiveness in European welfare states and the role of political competition.
