Neval Güllü is a PhD candidate and Research Associate at the Cluster of Excellence "Contestations of the Liberal Script" (SCRIPTS), where she examines the governance of religion in liberal-secular nation-states through a critical secular lens. She pursued her studies in Social Sciences at Humboldt University in Berlin, the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, and King's College London. During this time, Neval received scholarships from the Avicenna-Studienwerk and the DAAD. Her research primarily explores the (non)recognition of religious minorities in liberal-secular contexts, theories of secularism and religion, and Islam in Europe. Her master's thesis specifically investigated the recognition of Muslims within the framework of the German Islam Conference.
Since 2016, Neval has been actively engaged in political and civic education efforts and projects aimed at enhancing political participation among young people, particularly young Muslims in Berlin and Germany. From 2017 to 2019, she served as a board member of the Muslim youth association JUMA e.V. and, since 2022, she has been the founder and chairwoman of HUMA, the Muslim student association at Humboldt University. Additionally, Neval works as a freelance moderator and is a Fellow of the REACH Leadership Program of the Deutschlandstiftung Integration. She is currently a recipient of a doctoral scholarship from the Avicenna-Studienwerk.
